NAMING THE NEW ORGANIZATION
Deciding on a name for the new organization became an interesting and challenging task. We, the staff and board, wanted to choose a name that would include elements from both the Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Partnership. We wanted to portray a feeling of teamwork and collaboration with other local organizations and we wanted to make sure that the name included the new geographic area that we are now serving, Corvallis and Benton County.
A task force was created by the Board of Directors to come up with a name that would meet all these requirements. The task force took many things under consideration when deciding on the new name, among them were…
• Retaining the word Chamber to take advantage of the long time investment and worldwide association that comes with the recognition of the Chamber of Commerce.
• Illustrate the move to broaden our overall focus to include support of retail businesses, business development and general support for the community.
• Ensure that the name embraces the community in Corvallis and Benton County, which is the new geographic area we are serving.
• Include, if possible, the focus on inclusiveness and breadth that the new organization wishes to have by working with a broad range of local business entities.
• The task force also gave great consideration to how the name could be used in many communication contexts, such as announcements, answering the phone, press releases, web site, letters etc.
After much discussion the task force decided on the name, Corvallis-Benton Chamber Coalition.
