CELEBRATE CORVALLIS AWARDS

The Social and Awards Ceremony was held January 21, 2009 At CH2M HILL Alumni Center and LaSells Stewart Center on the beautiful Oregon State University Campus

For over sixty years the Corvallis-Benton Chamber Coalition and the Corvallis Jaycees have recognized citizens and businesses for their outstanding achievement in business and in the community.



2008 Recipients


First Citizen: Nicole Dodson

In the year 2000, Nicole Dodson stopped by the Corvallis Tourism and Visitor’s Bureau to offer her help with visitor services. She also stopped by the Benton County Chamber Coalition and the Downtown Corvallis Assoc., where she helps with the Red, White and Blues festival. As her 2 young children grow, so does Nicole’s circle of volunteerism – to Franklin School, the Corvallis Montessori School and the Corvallis Public Schools Foundation. Most recently she coordinated the first annual Benton County Sheriff’s Office Chili Cook-Off, which raised over $11,000 for CASA – Voices for Children. A member of Soroptimists International, the Order of Eastern Star, board member for Friends of the Corvallis Police and a vital volunteer for Celebrate Corvallis, Nicole Dodson is making a career of volunteerism.



Senior First Citizen: Hans Neukomm

Hans Neukomm grew up in Burgdorf, Switzerland. He immigrated 
to the United States in 1963 and became a naturalized American
citizen in 1968.Hans joined CH2M HILL as a project engineer. In
1983 he was appointed Vice President and Director of the Energy
Services Division. Throughout his career, Hans has been active in
the community. He serves on the Board of the Good Samaritan
Hospital and the Linn-Benton Community College Foundation. He
is a Past Chairman of the Corvallis-Benton County Economic
Development Partnership, a Vice President of the Oregon Trail
Council and Past Chairman of the Benton District Boy Scouts of
America.
In 1992 Hans founded Leadership Corvallis Inc. an organization 
that trains and prepares citizens for service as volunteers on boards
and committees of community and charitable service organizations.


Future First Citizen: 
Jason Powell

Jason Philip Powell, a senior at Santiam Christian School, is the founder of “Men of Iron” – a group of young men who perform acts of service to build character. After Hurricane Katrina, he gave up his varsity letter as a starter at linebacker and fullback position on the Santiam Christian School football team to join a relief team building houses in Alabama. Jason is a 3-sport student athlete and a contender for valedictorian. He was assistant basketball coach at the Boys and Girls Club. Jason is the son of Todd and Michelle Powell of Corvallis.




Junior First Citizen: Kelley Kaiser


Through her work at Samaritan Health Plans, Kelley Kaiser has taken leading role in health care issues locally and statewide. She is a long-time member of the Oregon Medicaid Advisory Committee and the Oregon Health Plan Contractors Committee. She recently joined the Oregon Health Care Leadership Task Force. At OSU she is a presenter and instructor on Health Policy and Management. Locally, Kelly Kaiser is a member of the Corvallis Rotary Club and was influential in merging the Corvallis Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development partnership.

Robert C. Ingalls Business Person of the Year: David Gazeley


David is known throughout the community for the way he does business – honestly, with great concern for fairness, and with the utmost integrity. This is recognized in the community because of the posititve impact Citizen's Bank has made as well as through David's personal service.



Entrepreneur of the Year:
Jon Hoffmeister

Jon is the President Perpetua Power Source Technologies, Inc.
Perpetua is dedicated to offering high quality, cost-effective, and easy-to-use power source products that last as long as the electronics they power.


Patroness of the Arts: Mary Jeanne Reynales

The noted director of a number of successful local musicals, Mary Jeanne Reynales directs with tact, skill and vision to bring out the best in each cast member. Without her the show quite literally would not go on. She volunteers her time at the Corvallis Community Theater and serves on their board.





Non-Profit Organization of the Year:

Community Outreach

Community Outreach has been providing for the basic human needs of the mid-Willamette Valley's homeless and poor since 1971. Stabilizing those in crisis, feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, healing the sick, and counseling the mentally ill and substance addicted.

Chamber Volunteer of the Year: Curtis Wright

Curtis Wright has logged in the neighborhood of 1600 volunteer hours over the course of the last year and has served on boards for:

•    Boy’s and Girl’s Club
•    United Way
•    The Business Enterprise Center
•    The Economic Vitality Partnership
•    The Prosperity That Fits Committee
•    Corvallis Tourism
